Punk rock drummer Martin Atkins
The G-Rated Version
How to make things happen in business
Rock and roll drummer and entrepreneur Martin Atkins spoke to the System Club at System 2008.
There is no tougher business than the music business.
The rewards are phenomenal, but so are the competition and the challenges.
Martin owns a recording studio, a record label, a music publishing company, an artist management company, and an info marketing business.
He's also a killer drummer who played with Johnny Rotten's post-Sex Pistols band, Public Image Ltd.
Originally a Brit, he now lives in Chicago with his wife and four kids.
I met Martin in New Orleans where he gave a very funny and very useful talk to students at Loyola University about the realities of success in the music business.
I found 99% of what he said directly applicable to the challenges Internet marketers face and I asked him if he'd speak at System 2008 to my System Club members.
His talk was one of the highlights of the conference, even if his language was a bit on the "salty" side.
For folks who missed his talk, I found this shorter, calmer, G-rated version of his message on the Internet and thought you might like it.
At some point, I'm going to make his whole talk available - it was amazing - but meanwhile, here's a taste.
